I have been painting for most of my life. My first paintings were in watercolours, but I quickly found that the depth of colours and richness of oil paint allowed me to express my ideas more vividly and I now paint exclusively in oils.
I am always drawn to the sea – the colours of water, light and movement are what inspire me.
I make a sketch of the scene on site if I can, but I may also use photographs to aid memory. I plan the scene on paper to start with, seeing which view or composition works best, before I begin to paint. I often change things as I paint, only using the sketch as a guide.
My paintings come in all sizes, depending on the scene or composition. Some paintings may be finished in a few hours, others may take weeks to complete.
I usually frame my paintings on completion. The frames are chosen to complement the painting, but can easily be removed if the new owner wants it changed. Prices reflect the size of the piece and the work involved.
I can arrange viewings by appointment at my studio near Macclesfield.
